Lots of happenings, well, happening. Sometimes it comes in waves, amirite?
First, my dad got pneumonia. This is sort of an issue because he’s had major stomach surgery last winter and is still dealing with healing from that. My dad gets aneurysms that need to be operated on before they burst and this has, from past surgeries, ended up with him being handicapped. Truthfully, I can’t think of a better term for it. He wasn’t born physically different/disabled. It’s also the phrase he has used for himself in the past.
What this all means is that illnesses hit him a lot harder than they do people with stronger immune systems. With every surgery or sickness that crops up, I get more worried about him being able to pull through. The pneumonia brought all that up. He’s doing fine, though. My step-mother insisted on the infection specialist they used after his stomach surgery and wound up altering his treatment somewhat. The pneumonia is under control and he will live to fight another day. That is something for which I’m grateful.
Living far from your family comes with lots of pros and cons. This is one of the big minuses for me: balancing my established life against being a part of the needs of my family back home. I still haven’t figured out how to work within that space while leaving behind the shame and guilt.
What else has happened…
Oh, well, lots of fun things have arrived in the mail. First, a mug F got me from Dear Sugar’s blog at therumpus.net:
This is super excited. The mug is gorgeous and really good sentiment to keep in mind.
Thennnn… I received the paintings I ordered from webcomic artist Erika Moen’s etsy at etsy.com/shop/erikiamoen. Please note there is some NSFW stuff on there so hide yo’ kids and hide yo’ wife if you’re a pearl-clutcher or work in a strict office environment.
Beautiful! I have them hanging above the archway to my office.
Last, but not least, I got my rubber stamps in the mail from etsy.com/shop/flonz. They are super cool.
I used the strongman stamp a lot last night. The detailing really came through with brown ink.
Hopefully soon I’ll be able to get a commission jewelry piece started with my friend Melissa. You should check her out at etsy.com/shop/EverGrowing. She’s got some amazing paintings and jewelry.
Also, today marks the beginning of my Saturday sewing classes at Albuquerque Old School – abqoldschool.com – and I’m nervous and excited. I never learned how to sew and this class seems perfect for me. I’m also pretty excited about a lot of the other classes they offer. Baby steps, though. It will be nice to have a usable skill besides childcare.
Yoga has been going well. My hamstrings are finally getting the hang of being stretched out and flexed. I can almost reach my heels to the floor in downward dog without the use of props. Yesterday, I actually made a 90 degree angle with my legs on the wall and my hands on the floor. I wasn’t able to hold it for very long, but I got there.
So, lots of ups and downs. Yet, everything seemed to work out for the best in the end. I enter Saturday feeling pretty grateful.
